Skills for Jobs for Learners

Skills for Jobs can help you get back into work.

This government-funded scheme is designed to support those not currently in work but who are committed to find long-term employment or voluntary work.

Skills for Jobs aims to provide you with the skills and self-confidence to find long-term employment. A range of training options are available to you, including:

  • Job search support; application forms completion and CV writing skills
  • Communication skills
  • Confidence building
  • Presentation skills.

If you are looking for work in a specific field, Skills for Jobs can also help you. We offer funded training in a range of sectors such as Retail, Care, Hospitality and Administration to name just a few.

The training will be tailored to your needs and you will receive support from the very first day you start. Once you are in employment, we will help you overcome any difficulties you may face.

Some financial assistance with travel/childcare may be available.

To participate, you must be 19 years or older and a UK resident.

How it works

When you contact us we will arrange for one of our specialist Personal Advisers to meet you for an informal chat.

At the meeting the adviser will discuss your career goals, the training and support you may need to achieve these goals as well as any special needs you might have. If you need extra support with literacy and numeracy skills, writing your CV or managing debt your adviser can help you with these too.

Once you have started with the Skills for Jobs programme you will have the support of a mentor who will meet with you regularly to see how you are getting on and whether you need any additional help.

Most Skills for Jobs courses last between 4-8 weeks. While you study your mentor will help you find a job.

Even after you have completed your course you will be supported in your job search for a further 6 weeks.

If you are successful and find employment you will have the option to see your mentor for up to 13 weeks from when you start work.
